Country Director for Young Global Leaders Network Ghana Chapter

The Country Director for Ghana’s Young Global Leaders Network Ghana Chapter is a vital role responsible for leading and managing the operations of the organization in Ghana. The ideal candidate should possess an entrepreneurial mindset, capable of initiating and executing projects independently. As a Country Director, the candidate will be responsible for developing fundraising initiatives, building relationships and partnerships, increasing membership for the Ghana chapter, and implementing key initiatives of the Young Global Leaders Network in Ghana. Although this is a voluntary position, the Country Director will be expected to explore income-generating opportunities to support their compensation.

  1. Project Management: Initiate, plan, and successfully execute projects, demonstrating a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Drive the implementation of initiatives that align with the organization’s vision and objectives, ensuring timely completion and quality deliverables.
  2. Fundraising and Networking: Develop fundraising strategies and initiatives to secure financial resources for the organization’s activities. Build a network of donors, sponsors, and partners to support the growth and sustainability of the Ghana chapter. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, corporations, and nonprofit organizations.
  3. Membership Development: Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain members for the Ghana chapter. Collaborate with the recruitment team to identify potential members, engage them through various channels, and ensure a positive membership experience. Provide support and resources to enhance members’ engagement and participation in the organization’s activities.
  4. Key Initiative Adoption: Identify one or two key initiatives from the Young Global Leaders Network and adapt them to suit the local context in Ghana. Design and execute these initiatives, aligning them with the organization’s mission and goals. Monitor and evaluate their impact, making necessary adjustments for optimal effectiveness.
  5. Income Generation: Develop innovative approaches to generate income for the Ghana chapter, enabling sustainable operations and potential compensation for the Country Director role. Explore revenue streams such as partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, grant applications, and fundraising events.
  6. Leadership and Team Management: Provide leadership and guidance to the Ghana chapter team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.   • Planning and Scheduling: The project coordinator is responsible for planning and scheduling the NextGen Lab: Youth Leadership and Mentorship Monthly Forum events. This involves coordinating with specialists to determine available dates and times, and creating a calendar of events.
  • Invite and communicate with specialists: Search and reach out to specialists, speakers and experts in various fields who can mentor the youth in the NextGen Lab. This involves identifying suitable professionals, extending invitations, providing necessary information about the forum, and ensuring clear communication regarding session details and expectations.
  • Guest Speaker Coordination: The project coordinator will be in charge of reaching out to specialists and inviting them to be guest speakers for the Youth Leadership and Mentorship Forum. They will communicate the event details, coordinate their participation, and ensure they have the necessary resources for their presentations.
  • Event Logistics Management: The coordinator will handle the logistical aspects of the NextGen Lab events. This includes coordinating with the Microsoft Teams platform, setting up virtual meeting rooms, managing participant registrations, and ensuring a smooth technical experience for both the guest speakers and the youth participants.
  • Youth Engagement and Communication: The coordinator will actively engage with the youth participants, promoting the events, answering inquiries, and providing updates on the upcoming sessions. Executive SECRETARY

As an Executive Secretary, you will provide high level clerical support to the CEO and Executive Council performing variety of secretarial duties and skilled tasks.

  1. Organize Quarterly Global Leadership Meetings:
    • Coordinate with Country Directors and their management teams to schedule quarterly global leadership meetings.
    • Plan and prepare the agenda for the meetings, ensuring it aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather necessary reports and updates for the meetings.
    • Arrange the logistics of the meetings, including venue selection, equipment setup, and catering arrangements.
    • Send out meeting invitations to participants, ensuring they have all the necessary details, such as date, time, location, and agenda.
  2. Coordinate Executive Council Meetings:
    • Schedule and manage two meetings for the Executive Council annually.
    • Liaise with the council members to determine suitable meeting dates and times.
    • Prepare the meeting agenda in consultation with the council chairperson or relevant executives.
    • Send out meeting invitations to council members, providing all relevant documents and materials in advance.
    • Assist with any additional requirements, such as audio/video conferencing setup or special guest arrangements.
  3. Set up Virtual Meetings and Send Invitations:
    • Utilize appropriate virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) to schedule and host virtual meetings.
    • Create meeting invitations, including details such as meeting link, dial-in options, and agenda.

  4. Write Meeting Minutes:

Mission of the Department:

To ensure that YOUNG GLOBAL LEADERS NETWORK develops and maintains strong and effective partnerships towards the implementation of YGL Network Strategic initiatives. Horizon scanning or development of various funding opportunities to support our projects.

Major Functions:

  • Ensures that the YOUNG GLOBAL LEADERS NETWORK – GLOBAL HUBs operations develops and maintains positive and effective partnerships and purposeful relationships that are relevant to the implementation of our Strategi Initiatives.
  • Promotes the vision and objectives of the YGL Network Strategic Plan to external and YGL Network stakeholders.
  • Develop a database of funding opportunities across the world relevant to us.
  • Research, develops and implements a Partnership Strategy that supports the YGL Network Strategy and mission and that ensures the very best of relationships with partners, donors, and others.
  • Ensures that all personnel understand the importance of the Partnership Strategy and how it relates to them, and that they are fully involved in its implementation.
  • Build and ensure excellent relations with key partners and put in place systems that maintain them.
  • Ensures effective engagement of strategic partners, especially Society groups and traditional leadership.
  • Develops strategic partnership and partnership-building approaches with Government, Donor Organizations, Civil Society, Corporate, and YGL Network stakeholder.
  • Supports, backstopping, guidance, and training of YGL Network staff in partnership matters at all levels.
  • Maintains a database of information including partner packages relating to Partners’ and, Donors’, individual requirements and goals, and such other details as are relevant to the development and maintenance of those partnerships.
  • Develops and manages Memorandum of Understandings as may arise from partnerships.
  • Working with the Fundraising & Partnership Manager, engage in fundraising activities for the YGL Network programmes.
  • Develop a database of funding and grant opportunities.

Profile

  • Proven track record in successfully managing Inter-Institutional relations.
  • At least 2 – 5 years professional experience in Inter-Institutional relationship management; and/or partnership development
  • Knowledge and experience of the realities of development issues, and Donor Institutions.
  • Excellent understanding of development partnerships, fund-raising, donor strategies, functions and international relations;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; other languages would be an added advantage;
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, and ability to maintain strong relationships, Strong cross-cultural skills and versatility in dealing with different types of partnership;
  • Personal integrity with an honest and open personal style;
  • Approachable, with an ability to engage partners at all levels; and
  • Adherence to YGL Network values;
  • Ability to attend online meetings;

Founder

Emmanuel Addo is the founder of the Young Global Leaders Network, an international non-governmental organization registered in six (6) countries namely, Ghana, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan and has a membership strength of over 15,000 young black professionals, students, graduates, and aspiring leaders.

The organization also operates in 25 other African countries. Emmanuel also doubles as the chief convener and founder of the Young African Leaders Summit, one of the largest continental youth summits in Africa.  

Currently works at Kingston University as a Business Engagement Team Member in their Partnerships and Engagement Department. 

He characterizes energy, integrity, result-oriented, and ground-breaking service in each detail of strategic management, change management, stakeholder management, and leadership acquaintances.
Emmanuel owns a core background in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Ghana.

Leveraging his experience as a youth activist and a dynamic young man, Emmanuel founded the Young Global Leaders Network, a youth organization that comprises young diplomats, young politicians, and aspiring politicians, business/entrepreneurial business leaders with the aim of championing a mutual agenda for the African youth and promoting youth participation in governance as well as promoting entrepreneurial culture.
Emmanuel nurtures an environment of teamwork and has expertise in data collection and analysis as well as both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Emmanuel worked as an Associate Lecturer at the London College of Advanced Management where he delivered a wide range of business management courses that involved principles of marketing, leadership, operation management, and research methods. Emmanuel has always maintained high teaching and learning standards to ensure that his students’ stand out in academic achievements and successful progression. As a stout believer and passionate key player in volunteering; Emmanuel creates quality time to giving back gladly to his community what he has learned and to educate individuals with free consultancy on career development. He is a leader anyone would love to look up to and with great integrity, commitment, and passion to make the world a better place.
Emmanuel worked as Qualifications Manager at the Open University in the UK.
