Terms and conditions of entry
WHO CAN APPLY AND QUALIFYING BUSINESSES/ACCEPTABLE PROPOSALS?
The competition will first be open to Ghanaians between the ages 18 to 35 years.
- Applicants must have valid identification (Passport, Driver’s License, Voters Registration, etc) as at the time of application.
- Applicant must be willing to operate the business on a full-time basis.
- Applicant should have an innovative business idea in need of a start-up fund
- Or already have an existing small business not more than 5 years old needing capital to expand operations.
- Anti-social forces and their associates are prohibited from entering the contest.
- Legal Residents
New businesses requiring start-up capital, or Existing small businesses (not more than 5 years) needing capital to expand.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
- Tick or fill the necessary sections on the application form.
- Attach a copy of your Ghanaian Identity Document.
- Submit completed forms online.
- Read Sections 3 & 4 carefully – Terms and Conditions of the Competition and Agreement.
- All sections must be completed and signed for the entry/application form to be valid.
- Incomplete entries will not be considered or entered into the competition.
- Pay an amount of $20 as application, filling, and registration fee.
Proposed ideas/Business Proposal
Ideas proposed must not infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of third parties. If a proposal does infringe any right of a third party (even if this occurs after entering the content), Young Politicians & Leaders Network may withdraw the award at its discretion, including after the announcement of the award.
Business plans must be innovative with positive developmental impacts.
Project must be commercially and technically viable.
Intellectual property rights of proposed ideas
The copyright and other intellectual property rights to each idea proposed shall remain with the entrant or applicant.
Business creation
When a prizewinning proposal is developed to become a business, YGLN and the theme owner or prizewinner will have the option of signing an agreement on how to handle the copyright and other intellectual property rights arising out of discussions around developing the proposed idea into a business and the division of roles among YPLN, the theme owner or prizewinner.
Alternatively, Kickstart Innovation Hub Ltd. will sit on the Board of KickStarters, prizewinners or theme owner for a period of 4 years to ensure progress and shall hold 5% shares or ownership of the awardees, KickStarters, prizewinners or theme owner start-up or business also for a period of 7 years.
NOTE:
Our aim is to provide mentorship, coaching and guidance to the start-up or business or prizewinners after the competition and ensure they succeed and use our part of the shares (5%) to fund or support other start-ups.
The KickStarters or winners are under the obligation to implement the advice as tendered by the mentors. There will be monthly update on the progress made and business performance which will be shared with the network.
Handling of the proposed idea
Kickstart Innovation Hub Ltd may disclose part of the proposed idea in magazines, books, and email newsletters, and on websites and other media for public relations purposes. In doing so, the proposal may be abridged, altered, translated, or partially modified together with the theme owner. After the prizes are announced, Kickstart Innovation Hub Ltd and the theme owner will destroy materials relating to proposals rejected before the final screening, so we no longer have records of them.
Handling of the proposed idea
The validity, interpretation, and legal force of these efforts and terms and conditions of entry shall be determined in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ghana (without regard to principles of conflict of laws).
Arbitration
Any dispute which may arise in connection with the above efforts and these terms and conditions shall be settled by arbitration in Ghana in accordance with the commercial arbitration rules in force at the time of application. Arbitration awards pronounced by the arbitrator are final and binding upon the parties. A decision on the execution of arbitral awards can be obtained from any court having jurisdiction.
Privacy statement
The Kickstart Innovation Hub Ltd (“KIH”, “we”, “us” or “our”) will collect and use your personal data, including your name, photograph, company name, position, career profile, address and e-mail address for KIH’s Flagship programme- KickStart Entrepreneurship Challenge (“KickStart Entrepreneurship Challenge”) as well as to comply with The Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
By reading and manifesting your intention to consent to this KickStart Entrepreneurship Challenge. Privacy Statement by applying to or participating in the Challenge, you consent to our use and disclosure of your personal data and agree that we may collect, use and transfer your personal data in accordance therewith.
Provision of your personal data is voluntary, but if you do not provide your personal data, or if you subsequently withdraw your consent to us continuing to use your personal data for purposes only related to the Competition, you may not be able to apply for or participate in the KickStart Entrepreneurship Competition. We rely on your consent as the basis for its continued processing of your personal data for the Competition.
Personal data stored and processed by us for the KickStart Entrepreneurship Competition will only be used for the purpose of: (i) contacting you, (ii) responding to your questions, (iii) notifying you of selection results and (iv) publishing selection results for the KickStart Entrepreneurship Competition. Your personal data will be deleted no later than two years after completion of the selection process unless we need to keep your personal data for longer due to legal or regulatory reasons.
We outsource the handling of your personal data to its affiliates and partners who assist us in providing the KickStart Entrepreneurship Competition (“Affiliates and Partners”). Your personal data will not be published or shared with third parties other than Affiliates and Partners, except for the publication of limited personal data in selection results, and except where we are legally required to do so.
The KickStart Entrepreneurship Competition will be held in many countries and is organized by KIH. By providing your personal data to us, you acknowledge your personal data is transferred to KIH. In addition, as KIH intends to become a global social enterprise, your personal data may also be transferred outside Ghana and UK to Affiliates and Partners. Ghana data protection law may not be as strict as the data protection laws of your country, and the other countries to which your data may be transferred may not have data protection laws as strict as those of Ghana and/or your country. Even so, in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2012, we shall confirm that its Affiliates and Partners have established the internal systems necessary to keep the measures to protect your personal data and shall properly supervise Affiliates and Partners by way of data transfer agreement or other appropriate means.
If you wish to make a complaint about our handling of your personal data or possible breach of privacy laws, to see a copy of, or correct, the personal data that we hold about you or to withdraw your consent to our continued processing of your personal data, please contact us. We can also provide you with details of competent data protection authorities.

Contest entrants shall be considered to have agreed to all articles of these terms and conditions of entry and privacy policy.
