Platform for women leaders to empower aspiring women leaders

Mission

Women Lead Initiative in an initiative that aims to amplify and empower women, provide a platform for women mentorship, networking, personal development, and knowledge acquisition.

The goal of this initiative is to raise over 2000 young women leaders in areas of entrepreneurship, politics, and corporate leadership by 2023 and equip them with relevant coaching, funding, ongoing training, and high-profile networking.

Signature Projects

CANDO Africa Women Lead Conference

Established to serve as a platform to discuss policy development, creation of women empowerment and amplification initiatives by women, enhancing the intervention of civil societies and the private sector, promoting advocacy and pressure groups, build awareness of business innovations that accelerate women’s empowerment, identify key actions to address the financing gap for women empowerment, the personal efforts of the attendees in empowering women in their respective industries and constituencies and sharing of ideas and provide women the opportunity to network.

40 Most Inspirational Female Leaders project

Our annual 40 Most Inspirational Female Leaders list/publication celebrates inspirational women who are future leaders, business leaders or leaders in an organization or political leaders and are making a tremendous contribution to gender diversity, women, and youth empowerment in Ghana. These individuals serve as role models to the youth. Aside celebrating these great women, the project is again purposed at motivating aspiring women leaders to also believe in themselves.

Woman2Woman Mentorship Programme

To build mentor mentee relationship for participants and members of YGLN. This we believe will provide adequate guidance to upcoming women leaders. Each mentoring relationship is tailored to the members needs and objectives. Our mentorship programme will focus on women entrepreneurs and career women.

CanDoWoman Project

This is a two-fold project. CanDoWoman Workshop which focuses on providing training, networking, and personal development to women entrepreneurs and aspiring women leaders. Can Do Woman Personality Series focus on showcasing or featuring and celebrating women personality doing tremendously well in their field of work.

About the Conference

The CanDo Africa Woman Lead Conference is a powerful gathering that aims to bring together women leaders, CEOs, directors, women entrepreneurs, and women officers between the ages of 18 and 35.

This conference provides a platform for mentorship, empowerment, and training for women who have completed tertiary and senior high school. It serves as a catalyst for positive change and aims to inspire and empower aspiring women leaders across Africa.

Focus Statement

The conference’s primary focus is on mentoring, empowering, and training women who have completed tertiary and senior high school. By bringing together accomplished women leaders and aspiring leaders, the conference creates an environment that fosters growth, development, and advancement for women in various sectors. It aims to equip women with the necessary skills, knowledge, and networks to excel in leadership roles.

This high-level Forum is a convergence of aspiring women leaders and women who are leaders in government, entrepreneurs, start-ups, civil societies, and the private sectors across the various nations of Africa. This platform provides mentorship, empowerment, soft skills training, networking, and capacity building to aspiring women leaders and/or delegates.

Database will be built for participants to take part in our World Congress for Young Global Leaders to be held in UK.

Expected Outcome

The CanDo Africa Woman Lead Conference strives to achieve several outcomes. Firstly, it aims to empower, amplify, and inspire aspiring women leaders across Africa. Through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and mentorship programs, the conference provides guidance, motivation, and support to women seeking to excel in their respective fields.

Secondly, the conference focuses on capacity building and soft skills training. By offering training sessions and workshops, it aims to enhance the leadership skills of women in government, politics, diplomacy, corporate sectors, entrepreneurship, civil society, and academia. The goal is to develop a strong and diverse network of capable women leaders who can drive positive change in their communities.

Furthermore, the conference seeks to promote the growth and development of African women-led businesses. It encourages women to explore opportunities in STEM fields, fostering innovation, and progress. By highlighting successful women entrepreneurs and providing networking opportunities, the conference aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and business growth.

Overall, the expected outcome of the CanDo Africa Woman Lead Conference is to create a supportive and empowering environment that encourages the advancement of women in all sectors. By equipping women with the necessary skills and knowledge, fostering mentorship relationships, and promoting networking opportunities, the conference aims to contribute to a more inclusive and prosperous future for Africa, driven by strong women leaders.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP EXECUTIVE FORUM 2019 IN GHANA

On the 21st of June 2019, the then YPLN held its maiden Women in Leadership Executive Forum in Ghana. The event was graced by women leaders in Ghana who challenge women not to give up irrespective of the challenges and strive for excellence.

Keynote speakers at the event were H.E. Claudia Turbay Quintero, Colombia Ambassador to Ghana and Hon. Bernice Adiku Heloo, Member of Parliament for Hohoe Constituency, Ghana.

Other speakers were; Dr. Caryn Agyeman Prempeh, Medical Doctor and Founder of Cerviva Ghana Foundation, Emmaline Datey, Human Resource Manager ate EIB Network and a Leadership Coach, Lexy Owusu-Boahene, Managing Director of LXHR Solutions, Marcia Ashong, a Lawyer and Founder/Executive Director of the Boardroom Africa, Mr Alvin Arthur Qua-Enoo, Social Entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer of EV Civil and Mining Ltd and Mr. Daniel Appiah, Regional Sales and Service Manager at Fidelity Bank.

The event was partnered by Tarragon Edge, CGIA, LXHR Solutions, Cerviva, Blue Skies, ICANN, United Nations Youth Ghana, and United Nations Youth TV.

2020 Women Lead Executive Virtual Forum

On the 12 Sep 2020, YGLN put together the Women Lead Executive Virtual Forum. This Forum was virtual due to covid. The Forum was streamed live on all YGLN’s social media. The focus of this Forum was on women empowerment, career building, mentorship, and networking.

The Forum was graced by Gloria Boye-Doku, Partner (Tax and Regulation) at Deloitte, Ghana, Genevieve Duncan, Branch Manager at Fidelity Bank, Elinam Horgli, Deputy Managing Director at J.K. Horgle Transport & Co Ltd., Ophelia Ama Oni, Certified Digital Finance Practitioner and Valerie Danchie, CEO of Yopoo Clean Co. Ltd.

The Forum was under the theme, Leading, Learning and Leveraging.

2021 Women Lead Executive Virtual Forum

On the 13 March 2021, YGLN again held its 3rd edition of Women Lead Executive Virtual Forum. Due to covid, management decided to hold this forum streamed live on Facebook with speakers and few members present.

Keynote Speaker was Mrs. Gloria Boye-Doku, Partner, Tax and Regulatory Services – Deloitte, Ghana.

Otiko Djaba, former Gender Minister was our Special Guest.
Other Speakers were Elinam Horgli, Deputy Managing Director, JK Horgle Transport & Co Limited, Dr. Ethel Owusu-Anane, Veronica Otuko Dzeagu, Development practitioner, Member of Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC), Francis Oko Armah, Sexual and Reproductive Health Advocate, and Abigail Foaty, Events and Communications Manager, British High Commission.

The Forum was under the theme, Celebrating Women Achievers Amidst Covid-19, Creating Equal Opportunity for Growth.

Welcome to the official web page of the “Top 40 Most Inspirational Female Leaders in Ghana” initiative, organized by the Young Global Leaders Network. This esteemed program aims to celebrate and honor exceptional women leaders across various sectors in Ghana. We believe in the power of recognising and showcasing the achievements of these remarkable individuals to inspire aspiring women leaders and foster a culture of empowerment and equality.

Purpose:

The purpose of this initiative is to recognize and acknowledge the outstanding contributions of women leaders in Ghana. By highlighting their achievements, we aim to inspire future generations of women to break barriers, pursue their ambitions, and make a significant impact in their chosen fields. Through this platform, we strive to promote gender equality, encourage diversity, and create role models for aspiring women leaders.

The categories open for the 2023 edition of the Top 40 Most Inspirational Female Leaders in Ghana are:

  1. WOMEN Media Personalities of the Year: This category acknowledges influential women who have made significant contributions to the media industry in Ghana. This includes journalists, broadcasters, editors, and other media professionals who have had a positive impact on society.
  2. WOMEN Corporate Personalities of the Year: Recognising outstanding women in the corporate world, this category honors leaders who have demonstrated excellence in business management, innovation, and corporate social responsibility. These women have played a crucial role in shaping the business landscape in Ghana.
  3. WOMEN Healthcare Leaders of the Year: This category celebrates inspirational women in the healthcare sector, including doctors, nurses, researchers, and healthcare administrators. These individuals have made notable contributions to improving healthcare delivery, public health, and medical research in Ghana.
  4. WOMEN Education Champions of the Year: Acknowledging leaders in the education sector, this category highlights women who have made a difference in the field of education. This includes school administrators, teachers, educational reform advocates, and those who have positively impacted the educational landscape in Ghana.
  5. Whether through non-profit organizations, community development projects, or advocacy work, these leaders have made a meaningful impact on society.
  7. WOMEN Government and Public Service Leaders of the Year: Recognising influential women in government and public service, this category applauds those who have played pivotal roles in shaping public policy, governance, and public administration in Ghana. These leaders have contributed to the development and progress of the nation.
  8. WOMEN Entertainment Personalities of the Year:  Recognising the outstanding achievements and influence of Ghana’s leading women in entertainment. This category celebrates the creativity, talent, and resilience of extraordinary female personalities who have made significant contributions to the vibrant and diverse landscape of Ghanaian entertainment.
  9. YGLN Young Rising Stars of the Year: Recognising women making significant impact in their career. Making a valuable contribution and showing a willingness to learn, the young rising star always goes the extra mile, demonstrating exceptional ambition and paving the way for her own success.
  10. WOMEN Entrepreneurship Excellence Personalities of the Year: Recognising women entrepreneurs who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and/or innovation in the entrepreneurial landscape of Ghana.  

Who can make a nomination?

  1. Ghanaian Women resident in Ghana.
  2. Self-nomination is allowed.
  3. Organizations can also make nominations.

Nomination Criteria:

To ensure a fair and rigorous selection process, the committee responsible for this initiative established the following criteria for nominations:
  1. Outstanding Achievements: Nominees must have a proven track record of significant accomplishments in their respective fields, demonstrating exceptional leadership, innovation, and impact.
  2. Positive Influence: Nominees should have made a positive difference in their communities, organizations, or sectors, embodying ethical leadership and social responsibility.
  3. Role Model: Nominees should serve as inspirations and role models, demonstrating resilience, determination, and the ability to overcome challenges.
  4. Diversity and Inclusion: The initiative seeks to recognize women leaders from diverse backgrounds, professions, and age groups, ensuring a broad representation of Ghana’s talent.
  5. Continued Growth and Potential: Nominees should exhibit the potential for further growth, contributing to the development and progress of their fields and inspiring future generations.

The Final 40:

After an extensive review and selection process, the committee will meticulously choose the final extraordinary women leaders who have excelled in their respective domains and have been selected as the “40 Most Inspirational Female Leaders in Ghana”. The “40 Most Inspirational Female Leaders in Ghana” initiative is a celebration of remarkable women leaders who have shattered barriers, overcome challenges, and made significant contributions to their communities and fields. We invite you to explore the profiles of these inspiring individuals, learn from their journeys, and be motivated to pursue your dreams relentlessly. Emmanuel Addo
Founder

Emmanuel Addo is the founder of the Young Global Leaders Network, an international non-governmental organization registered in six (6) countries namely, Ghana, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan and has a membership strength of over 15,000 young black professionals, students, graduates, and aspiring leaders.

The organization also operates in 25 other African countries. Emmanuel also doubles as the chief convener and founder of the Young African Leaders Summit, one of the largest continental youth summits in Africa.  

Currently works at Kingston University as a Business Engagement Team Member in their Partnerships and Engagement Department. 

He characterizes energy, integrity, result-oriented, and ground-breaking service in each detail of strategic management, change management, stakeholder management, and leadership acquaintances.
Emmanuel owns a core background in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Ghana.

Leveraging his experience as a youth activist and a dynamic young man, Emmanuel founded the Young Global Leaders Network, a youth organization that comprises young diplomats, young politicians, and aspiring politicians, business/entrepreneurial business leaders with the aim of championing a mutual agenda for the African youth and promoting youth participation in governance as well as promoting entrepreneurial culture.
Emmanuel nurtures an environment of teamwork and has expertise in data collection and analysis as well as both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Emmanuel worked as an Associate Lecturer at the London College of Advanced Management where he delivered a wide range of business management courses that involved principles of marketing, leadership, operation management, and research methods. Emmanuel has always maintained high teaching and learning standards to ensure that his students’ stand out in academic achievements and successful progression. As a stout believer and passionate key player in volunteering; Emmanuel creates quality time to giving back gladly to his community what he has learned and to educate individuals with free consultancy on career development. He is a leader anyone would love to look up to and with great integrity, commitment, and passion to make the world a better place.
Emmanuel worked as Qualifications Manager at the Open University in the UK.

Emmanuel is also the founder of Kickstart Innovation Hub Ltd, the entrepreneurial hub of Young Global Leaders Network.
